America’s Protector

Ever since 9/11, the thought keeps occurring, who is really protecting the United States from outside aggression? A country with long, basically unprotected borders. Seaports with incoming shipping from every country in the world. A fairly open immigration policy, and millions of illegal immigrants. A large land that opens its arms to people from every country in the world, to every race and religion. There is no other place in the world with a legacy of immigration that we have, and no other place the immigrants would rather be, than the United States.

But unfortunately the United States has many enemies. In recent years, largely because America is a big brother to Israel, a fierce hatred has developed against her. 9/11 was a sample of what that hatred can do. The government keeps warning us, terror can strike at any time. I am sure security has tightened along the borders, and in all seaports and airports. But it can never be enough in a country this big with so many different types of people. So what is holding back terrorism in the United States? There is only one answer - the Holy Spirit.

Our founding fathers back in the 1700's knew that no country in the world could grow, live in peace and have a great economy, without the blessing of God. They reached out to God, based our laws on God, and called out to Christ the Anointed One for freedom. The result of all this is the greatest "got it all together" country in the world. If you do not believe this, travel to other countries, as I have. The founding fathers were aware of things then that we seem to have forgotten about today.

For about 200 years the United States basically stuck with God, and became a country that was envied by the world. But about 40 years ago things started to erode. God was being eased out of public places, schools, court houses, the government etc. While God was being removed, Satan wasted no time moving in, and America found itself in a war that tore this country apart, as much as it tore apart Vietnam. America also found itself in drug wars, gang wars, serial killings, school shootings, abortion, divorce etc. The increase in crime during the last 40 years is staggering. While God was being removed by our great "smarter than God" politicians, so was His protection - the protection that kept us apart from the rest of the world.

All this has happened before, just read the Old Testament. Time and time again the people of Israel were beaten down when they stopped worshiping God. Then when things were really bad they would cry out to God, and He was right there to save them. A generation or so later the people of Israel again dropped God and got back into idol worship. Again they were beaten down by outside forces and inside turmoil - and again they would cry out to God, etc. America is going through this same phase today as Israel did in the Book of Judges. We are dropping God and getting into idol worship. With sleazy movies and TV, and a large entertainment field, along with drugs, cars etc., we have even more idols to worship than the Israel in the Book of Judges.

The protection is being withdrawn from America, and terrorism, and the threat of terrorism is creeping in. When the 9/11 tragedy hit, there was an awakening by many people. Americans came to realize that all the radar and early warning systems, FBI, CIA, Army, Navy etc., cannot fully protect this country. It takes spiritual help, as in Psalms 127:1 "Unless the Lord builds the house, its builders labor in vain. Unless the Lord watches over the city, the watchmen stand guard in vain." Many since have committed themselves to pray for America. Churches are devoting services to pray for America, and for the last two years America has lived in peace. I think it’s pretty obvious that the prayers are working, and I think it’s obvious what’s happened to America in the last 40 years when the prayers for America diminished.

The question is, "How long will America be protected from terrorism?" The answer to this question, is another question, "How long will you keep praying?"
