Prophecy in the Second Psalm, Part 1 of 3

John Hagee's book "Attack on America" has an interesting chapter on the second Psalm. As Mr. Hagee writes:

" This is a prophetic and messianic psalm, and it holds keys to understanding the future of Jerusalem.

There are four speakers in this psalm:

* David speaks in verses 1-3.

* God the father speaks in verses 4-6.

* God the Son speaks in verses 7-9.

* God the Holy Spirit speaks in verses 10-12.

Look at the first three verses:

Why do the nations rage,

And the people plot a vain thing?

The kings of the earth set themselves,

And the rulers take counsel together,

Against the Lord and against His anointed, saying,

"Let us break their bonds in pieces

And cast away their cords from us."

The "nations" are the gentile, or non-Jewish, nations. "Rage" implies a violent hatred toward God, and the world "plot" refers to a battle in the mind. The godly use their minds to meditate upon God. The Godless use their minds to consider how to get rid of God. Never has this been more evident than in today's world. This rebellion against God is premeditated. It is a plan conceived and carried out.

A certain youth pastor in Florida helps in a student-run prayer meeting before school. One day he noticed two adults in the room. They didn't say anything as the students watched a Christian music video and then took prayer requests. These two adults, a man and a woman, just sat with stony expressions.

The next week he learned that they were wiccans - witches! They had come to the meeting to observe the students and promptly went home to develop a plan for shutting down the volunteer, before-school prayer meeting. They went to the school principal and demanded that they be allowed to offer a meeting for witches!

Premeditated planning with godlessness as the goal. We are surrounded by people who despise the gospel!

Notice, too, that the psalmist wrote, "the kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together." The rulers gather by appointment. They come together in formal meetings and debate how they can do away with God.

In the coming months, friend, watch the United Nations closely. You may soon see a UN resolution that would deny Israel the right to its own sacred and capitol city.

Why do the nations rage and people imagine a vain thing? Why do the kings of the earth and the rulers take counsel against the Lord? This rebellion against God is not imposed on the masses - it is a popular, grassroots movement.

Do you not doubt that godlessness has already taken hold in America? Look around! Look at the rock concerts, where thousands of young people flash satanic gestures, dress in black, and sing songs of violence and cruelty. Consider our mainline denominations, most of which deny that the Bible is infallible, inerrant Word of God. Consider the Supreme Court, which took public prayer out of schools. Consider our schools. Consider our television programs, which revel in immorality and decadence.

Consider your life: Have you attempted to get rid of God? When you don't pray, you're living without God. When you ignore the reading of His Word, you're living apart from His guidance. When you willfully sin, you're thumbing your nose at His holy standards for your life. When you cherish and protect your hidden sin, you're attempting to get rid of God.

Notice that those who rage against God are against Him and His anointed, or Jesus Christ. They say, "Let us break Their bonds in pieces and cast away Their cords from us."

Men want to get rid of God's "cords and bonds," or the restraints the Bible places on society. We don't want God's morality; we want to create our own. We create new names for old sins and turn God's "covenant" love into a "convenient" love. We call abortion "choice." We call homosexual perversion "an alternate lifestyle." We call lying "fudging the truth." We call immorality "private behavior." We call fornication "free love." We call euthanasia "a good death" and infanticide "an alternative to a poor quality of life."

May heaven have mercy on us for our rebellion against God's authority! We've become adept at saving our ire for sin as we define it, not as God has defined it. Liberal theologians mock salvation by blood as "slaughterhouse religion," when the Bible clearly says that without the shedding of blood there is no remission of sin (Matt. 26:28; Heb. 9:22. What can wash away my sin? Nothing but the blood of Jesus! "
