Bring Jesus into the Twenty-First Century

Jesus who created all things - for some reason is left in the first century by most people, simply because He walked the earth in human form at that time. He is not thought of as some one in this modern era, as running a lathe in a carpentry shop, typing on a computer, or driving a car. We think of Him as dressed in the clothes of the first century, walking, or riding a donkey. We do not bring Him into our century - yet, He created everything that we have in this century. In the book "Why Jesus Matters", the authors Bruce Bickel and Stan Jantz relate to this situation.

" As people living in the twenty-first century, we pride ourselves in our scientific accomplishments. We can hardly remember a time when we didn't have space travel, computers, and a cure for the common cold (oops, we haven't come up with that one yet). Our technology is so impressive that we can hardly imagine what it was like to live without electricity, running water, and cell phones.

When we think of Jesus and the time He lived on earth, we tend to imagine that He couldn't possibly relate to our technologically advanced world. We picture Him in sandals, drawing pictures in the dirt. We think His teachings apply to our moral and spiritual lives but that when it comes to scientific knowledge, we're pretty much on our own. We conclude that people who don't follow Christ are just as likely to make discoveries as those who do. Maybe more likely.

What a mistake we make when we separate Jesus from the universe He created. The Bible claims that Jesus, who was born in a barn and never ventured more than a few hundred miles from His hometown, is the Creator of the universe. As the Creator, don't you think Jesus would know everything there is to know about how the universe operates? And if He knows everything about the universe now, is it possible that Jesus knew about it when He walked the earth?

Just look how He rearranged atoms and molecules when He turned water into wine. He knew how the atmosphere works. Just see how He exerted authority over the wind and the sea. Jesus knew everything about the human body. Just look how He raised a dead man back to life.

How can you separate the creation from the Creator? When you think about it this way, there's nothing we can know about the universe that Jesus doesn’t already know. There's nothing we can discover and no technological barrier we can cross without seeing Jesus on the other side. Rather than leaving Jesus in the first century, we need to bring Him into the twenty-first century and thank Him for every good and beneficial advancement and discovery He enables humans to make. "
